Tree of the Week: September 23, 2025

It’s a very special Tree of the Week, as one of our developers, Arham, welcomed a baby girl! The Tree of the Week is the Princess Tree (Paulownia tomentosa). It is native to central and eastern China and the Korean Peninsula. The Princess Tree was traditionally planted for a newborn girl in Japan and could be crafted into a dresser for her wedding. In ancient Israel, a cypress tree was planted for a baby girl, while in the Indian village of Pakauli, a sandalwood tree is planted to celebrate a daughter’s birth. It blooms with beautiful, large blue flowers in the Spring. It’s a fast growing tree, and has been cultivated as an ornamental tree in parks and gardens. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit!
