Tree of the Week: October 20, 2026

ArborNote’s Tree of the Week is the Moringa (Moringa oleifera), commonly known as the miracle tree or drumstick tree. It’s a fast-growing, drought-resistant tree, native to northern India and used extensively in South and Southeast Asia. Nearly every part of the plant—including the leaves, pods (drumstick pods), flowers, and seeds—is edible and nutrient-dense.  Dried loose leaves are frequently steeped as a herbal tea, and cold-pressed seeds produce moringa oil used primarily in cosmetic skincare lines.  The moringa is known as the “Never Die” tree because it is incredibly resilient. It thrives in poor, sandy soils, survives severe droughts, and can grow back rapidly even after being cut down to a stump. It is used in culinary dishes across South Asia and Africa, as well as for water purification where crushed seeds act as a natural coagulant.
