Tree of the Week: May 14th, 2024

We couldn’t get enough of the amazing trees in San Diego at the @westernchapterisa conference! ArborNote’s Tree of the Week is the Moreton Bay Fig Tree (Ficus macrophylla). This large evergreen banyan tree is native to eastern Australia, and is best known for its plank roots, which are large, wide roots that extend outward (not down) from the trunk of the tree. It has been widely used as a feature tree in public parks and gardens in warmer climates such as California, Spain, Portugal and Italy. Moreton Bay Fig Trees can reach 200 ft in height, with crown spreads as great as 250 feet!
