Tree of the Week: February 13th, 2024
Celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs win in the Superbowl , ArborNote’s Tree of the Week is the state tree of Missouri, the Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida L.)! It became the state tree of Missouri in 1955 because they are found all over the state and during the springtime, they bloom with beautiful flowers with shades of pink and white. These trees are only native to North America and they have a lifespan of about 80 years. The name “dogwood” comes from one colonial description of the fruit the tree produces as being edible but not fit for a dog and it stuck around all these years!
