Tree of the Week: April 23rd, 2024
This week, ArborNote’s Tree of the Week is the Tasmanian Blue Gum (Eucalyptus globulus). Blue gum is native to parts of Tasmania and the southwestern part of Australia. It is the most widely cultivated eucalyptus in the world! Blue gum trees have been widely planted along the coast of California from Humboldt Bay to San Diego. They are highly successful in the areas that have heavy fog often, such as San Francisco. Their bark is highly flammable, so they do pose a high fire threat. However Blue gum is the primary source of eucalyptus oil, which is used for everything from medicine to insecticide, fragrance, flavoring, and fuel!
