Tree of the Week: April 1st, 225

Spring is such an amazing time of year with all of the blooming trees, so ArborNote’s Tree of the Week is the currently blooming Flavor Grenade Pluot (Prunus domestica x prunus armeniaca). It is a hybrid fruit (plum-apricot) known for its unique, explosive flavor and crisp texture, with a green skin and red blush. Although, the fruit can be messy if allowed to drop on the lawn or walkways, and may require occasional clean-up! This tree also gets clothed in stunning clusters of fragrant white flowers along the branches in early spring before the leaves. Because of its spring beauty and  adaptability to a wide range of soils and climates, it makes it an ideal choice for backyard gardens or orchards. An interesting fact about the Pluot is that unlike most other fruits, it is a federally registered trademark. In the United States, Dave Wilson Nursery is the primary propagator and licensor of varieties developed by Zaiger’s Genetics. A trademarked fruit is pretty wild!
